What's Missing from the NIV? 1 Year, 6 Months ago

I had a family member challenge me whether the NIV was every bit as complete the word of God as my KJV. I asked him if he would spend an evening with me comparing verse by verse some bible passages. As you will see soon, the verses I selected became a "one sided" study as I asked him to turn to his NIV to compare these verses.
KJV: Ma 17: [21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
NIV: Verse Entirely Missing. (From here on out simply known as VEM)
KJV: Ma 18: [11] For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
NIV: VEM
KJV: Jo 5: [4] For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
NIV: VEM
KJV: Acts 8: [37] And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
NIV: VEM
KJV: Acts 15: [34] Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
NIV: VEM
Mark 9: [44] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
NIV: VEM
Mark 9: [46] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
NIV: VEM
Luke 17: [36] Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
NIV: VEM
There are many more passages that I have not listed here (over 100), but about the 5th verse they start to see where this is going. What is interesting is the NIV doesn't even try to hide that they are missing. The Chapters and Verses simply skip the number. So in Mathew 18 it simply goes vs 9, 10,....12, 13.
Now for the parts that the NIV wanted to completely leave out but couldn't comfortably because they were large passages with several verses.
The story of the woman taken in adultry: John 7:53 - 8:11. Twelve whole verses are there but footnoted this way; "the earliest and most reliable ancient witnesses do not have" them. So since they couldn't really leave that large a passage completely out, they put it in and then said they shouldn't have because they don't belong...
I then asked him "who killed Goliath?". He answered "David". Really....Please turn with me to 2 Samuel 21:19 The NIV reads: In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver's rod.
I then said, lets do a study on "Hell" as mentioned in the OT. The word "Hell" appears 31 times in the KJV old testament. It appears ZERO times in the NIV OT, because the word "Hell" is always changed to either "grave" or "death". The JW's, SDA's, and a several other "churches" love this since they believe there is no literal hell, but that the grave or simply death, is hell.

That's interesting. I knew that there were many verses that are missing from the new versions, but I didn't know it was that many. I also wasn't aware of the footnote issue with that large passage that they wanted to remove or about the "hell" issue. Thanks for the great information.

I left out all the verses not completely missing but "gutted" severely. One such example would be (words in bold completely missing):
KJV Luke: 9: [55] But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
[56] For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
NIV: Luke 9:55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them, 56: and they went to another village.
KJV: Rev 1: [11] Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
NIV: Rev 1:11 Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.
Since the NIV's stylistic critic Dr. Virginia Mollenkott is an open lesbian, and the chairman of the NIV's Old Testament translation committee Dr. Martin Woudstra is an known homosexual and both openly argue that homosexual behavior is NOT forbidden by scripture, it's not surprising that....
Where God condemns the sodomite (Deut. 23:17; I Kings 15:12; I Kings 24:14), the NIV condemns "Shrine Prostitution". Where they get that is anyone's guess since not even the corrupt garbage texts they use; the "Vaticanus" and "Sinaticus"; can be possibly translated that way. They simply...made that up...
The NIV changes God's condemnation of male effeminacy (I Cor. 6:9) to "male prostitution". But you can be effiminate without being a homosexual at all, much less a male prostitute. "Abusers of themselves with mankind" became "homosexual offenders" (back to their male prostitutes), and "those without natural affection" became "without love". As you can see those are very different things. Anyone can be without love but that is not even close to being without natural affection.

Hi saints. There is actually a whole lot more missing from the N.T. And then we have the Old Testament where the NIV rejects or adds to the Hebrew texts in numerous places.
I recently came across a blog link where a man made an in depth study of what is missing from the NIV New Testament when compared to the Traditional Greek Text of the King James Bible. It appears to be quite complete. Take a look. You will probably be surprised at what you see. Here is the link:

I've never heard that acronym before. I think it's fitting, though.

I've always heard the acronym "Non-Inspired Version" but unfortunately, I know too many people that would lump the KJV into that category now.
