How old is the world?

Most people would say: "Nobody knows."

But the author of the book frequently described as the greatest history book ever written, said the world was created Oct. 23, 4004 B.C. – making it exactly 6,011 last Monday.

In the 1650s, an Anglican bishop named James Ussher published his "Annals of the World," subtitled, "The Origin of Time, and Continued to the Beginning of the Emperor Vespasian's Reign and the Total Destruction and Abolition of the Temple and Commonwealth of the Jews." First published in Latin, it consisted of more than 1,600 pages.

The book, now published in English for the first time, is a favorite of homeschoolers and those who take ancient history seriously. It's the history of the world from the Garden of Eden to the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70.

Has anyone heard of this book?

Never heard of it, but it's probably a good read by the sounds of it.

If you add up the years in the Bible, you get approximately 4004 years B.C. But not each child would be born on your own birthday, so their is a little margin of error adding up the dates like that.

Narrow it down to the day? I don't think so
Narrow it down to the month? I doubt it.
Narrow it down to the year? You'd have to show me hard evidence.
Narrow it down to a century? I'll believe it.

But I do believe Adam was created in the afternoon, regardless of what this book says, since Adam was created just before Eve.

Hope this helps!

Good thinking Jeff. )
When I was in Bible college and took Old Testament survey and Geneis which were both taught by the same teacher. He taught us the timeline from creation to the flood. There were no dates just the years between creation and the flood. The only thing he used was the Bible it was a very interesting study. I have the notes around here somewhere or maybe it is written in the Bible I used during college.

I have the book in hardback, it is interesting. Whether or not it is 100% correct is unlikely (for one would be hard-pressed to find a book written by man with errors), however, it does present good facts and helpful information, and is definately worth the $ to pick it up.

BTW if you add up the dates given in the Bible (I have done this) you get 1656 after creation for the flood (just after the death of Methuselah), and it has been estimated that there were BILLIONS of people alive at that time.
