BASIC TRAINING 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Hello folks,

As part of my teaching to the kids at my church, I am going back to the Basics to make sure they can give answers to questions they might be asked as born-again Christians.

We should be able to give a clear biblical answer to some basic fundamentals of our Faith.

I invite everyone here to think back for a moment before you were born-again and think of some questions you would ask a born-again Christian about their faith.

I want to get a list of questions together for my teenage class and get them on track on what they should know and be able to give a clear biblical answer.

For example.

Why do you believe in God?
What does born-again mean?
Explain the Trinity?

After we all post some questions, I'll start another thread and see how well we can all answer them. /

Thanks,
LD

Re: BASIC TRAINING 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Been talking this one over with my hubby. We were lost as teens but were good friends with a saved teen going to an IFB church. Neither of us had much church background, so our questions weren't necessarily deep and doctrinal...

Why do you go to church all the time?
What's wrong with the way I was baptized? (sprinkling)
Why do you dress the way you do? Why won't you go to the homecoming dance, prom, ect?
What's wrong with going to the movies?
What's the deal with tithing?
What difference does it make where I go to church - don't we all worship the same God?
I'm a good person, I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, sleep around, or steal, ect. - isn't that good enough?
If God loves everyone, why would he send someone "good" to hell?
Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?
If God is perfect, then why did he make man so imperfect?
Isn't the devil and hell just a "fairy tale" type thing?

Recently, we have been dealing with a young man from our church who grew up in church, said he was saved, but was not showing any fruit of salvation. I had the privilege of leading him to the Lord a few weeks ago, but he was asking some different type questions...

I said a prayer and was baptised a long time ago, doesn't that mean I'm saved?
How do I know God is speaking to me?
I have things I want to do with my life and I am afraid if I get saved I won't be able to do them.
What does it mean to surrender to God?
People already think I'm saved, what will others think if I get saved "again"?
If I am not really saved, why didn't God tell me sooner?
Will God do something to me if I don't get saved now?

My in-laws are lost, but my husband's brother and sister both claim to be saved. They live completely different lifestyles than we do, go to different churches, ect. So the biggies we get from the in-laws are...

You all (referring to the siblings) say you are "saved" but you all disagree on what church to go to and what things are OK for "Christians" to do. What makes one way right and the other way wrong?
I can worship God anywhere and anytime I want. Why do I need to go to church?

Looking forward to seeing how this thread progresses!

Re: BASIC TRAINING 1 Year, 6 Months ago
I got saved when I was a "junior higher." I had lots of questions about God and the things of God. I remember laying down in my bed at night and fearing death and the future. It really brought me down. But praise God for His Word, and His Spirit, and His good news!

My questions were...What am I here for? (Meaning why is there life here on Earth and what is the purpose of life?) Are we the only ones in the entire universe? (actually no, there is God, and there are other life-beings called angels, some are friends others are foes - great lesson to teach btw). Can a person really know for sure that they are "saved?" (this question came to me, after talking to a friend who was a born again believer). How do I know the Bible is true? When and how will the world end? If God is here, why do bad things happen (Natural disasters; poverty, corruption, social injustices?).

After getting saved my questions were something like: If I am saved, why do I still sin? does that mean I can lose Salvation?, What's wrong with going to the movies? What's wrong with rock music? Why do I need to stop running with the wrong crowd? Why do I need to get baptized? (Nick already asked that one). What is "Devotions?" What is "Tithing?" How can I pray and read the Bible better?

What is truth?

What about science?

Explain creation?

Hasn't evolution been proven? Doesn't that show the creation story is just a myth?

Why do you believe Jesus is God?

Why do you say the Bible is the Word of God? Didn't men write it?

Come on now, got to be more questions.

Who is going to take on answering some of these.

This could be a learning experience. Guess I should tackle one.

Thanks,

I have had a person at work ask about God’s relationship to time.
He could not comprehend that God is eternal.

These are some good questions. Good job everyone!

I have had a person at work ask about God’s relationship to time.
He could not comprehend that God is eternal.

That's a hard one. It's hard for finite minds to understand eternity.
