Bank/GM Bailout 1 Year, 9 Months ago

Well...what's your opinion? Do you believe the Gov't should bail them out of their financial problems?
Then tell why you stand on your opinion.
I believe NOT!
The FAT CATS are sitting on their 150ft yahts, smoking their cigars, swiggin' their martini's and eating caviar, planning the college years of their grandchildren, while their wives are worried about their Pierpont glass service ware being cleaned by the illegal immigrants they employ, getting thier Cardier watches and whatever, whatever ect, ect, ect.
Looking ahead for their senators to vote to give them money to give to the bankers who are getting 700 Billion for their excesses. Where does it stop? We will not survive this. God will vindicate His Word. He is judging our financial sins now.....He has yet to start on our moral sins. Lookout!

I don't think that we should even consider bailing them out, but I do think that it is important to be informed on both sides of this issue. If GM goes under it will likely destroy upwards of 1,000,000 jobs. This is the estimates that have been put out. That is the number of GM dealerships that will go out of business, the number of factory workers that will be laid off, the number of GM contractors that will be fired, etc. It will destroy the economy of Michigan and have a trickle down effect on much of the rest of the nation.

Sure, it will cause many job losses, but the slack has to be pulled in by other companies. And if they keep their jobs, and there's no work... I guess that means that I'm the one keeping them employed with my tax dollars going to the federal gov't to pay for their woes. It's not Joe the factory worker's fault that his business went out of business. That could have happened anywhere and everywhere.
I say don't give them one red cent. It's time that Americans take responsibility for their actions - even large corporations.

Why Not Let GM Go Bankrupt?
GM is mounting a massive PR campaign to convince Washington that a GM bankruptcy would be catastrophic to the national economy, resulting in the loss of millions of jobs, costing taxpayers over $100 billion, and plunging the economy into a depression (whatever that is). In addition to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed, Barack Obama has now called for an auto bailout.
I don’t want the US auto industry to go away. Yes, if GM and every one of its suppliers and dealers stopped operating tomorrow, that would cost hundreds of thousands or millions of jobs. But it’s not clear to me why bankruptcy would have the same effect. Ordinarily, when a company goes bankrupt - especially a big one - it goes right along doing whatever it was doing before, except now it doesn’t have to pay off all its creditors, and its operations are monitored by a court. The bankruptcy process is intended to find a reasonable outcome for all of the stakeholders that reflects the order of priority of their claims, but also (in the case of a company as big as GM) reflects the public interest. Airlines, for example, have been going in and out of bankruptcy for years in order to force their unions to negotiate long-term cost reductions, and even use the threat of bankruptcy as a negotiating tool.
If GM were to go bankrupt, one possibility is that it would emerge in a stronger form, perhaps with a lower cost structure and with some of its debt converted into equity. Another possibility is that it would be broken up and sold to other companies, both domestic and foreign, who would continue doing most of what GM does today. In any case, it is likely that shareholders would get nothing (but they’ve already lost most of what they put in), management would be fired, and workers would lose something (through job cuts or reduced pay or benefits), but the nightmare scenario that GM is trying to scare us with would not occur.

What would the cost of the bailout be? $25 Billion? More?
So, a bailout wouldn't cost taxpayers money; however, if GM would go bankrupt, it would cost us $100 Billion. Yeah, that makes sense.
Let's not give them a dime. If we do, not only do we have a bank bailout, and an auto bailout, but then we have a healthcare bailout, a retail bailout, and a technology bailout.
WHERE DO WE STOP?!?!?

We dont have the swiss bank account and mercedes so we dont deserve to be bailed out. I have nothing against wealth, hey, I like money and the way it can be used as a tool, it is just that the big time swindlers....er.. I mean swingers have all the money and the opportunity of stupid politicians who want to pay their bills.
The right way is CAPITALISM.
But... capitalism only works when you hang all the theives.

That is exactly right! We need to get back to Adam Smith's principles of economics. We would be in a lot better shape.
