Yes, Benadryl is used to counteract allergic reactions.
John's white cells are at 1.2 (range for chemo patients is between 1.0 and 4.0) - so he is at the very low range. He cannot go to church for now or be around crowds of people - especially children who are receiving immunizations. He has another round of chemo next week, five days in a row. He talked to the oncologist about the Benadryl and how he reacts to it and they are going to try another type of antihistamine... I'm not a doctor but don't they all make you sleepy? Anyways, they are going to "play with the recipe" (the oncologist's own words, LOL) and see if the infusion will not be so taxing on my poor husband.
Praise the Lord, however, that our Marine made it home yesterday for a 17-day pre-deployment leave. He goes to the sand pit on September 14th for 7 months so we are doing our best to love on him, enjoy him, and spoil him while we have him!!
